Aims and Scope
Academic Medicine & Surgery is a fully open‑access, peer‑reviewed journal dedicated to advancing knowledge across the entire continuum of clinical care—from the pre‑hospital environment and emergency department, through the operating theatre and intensive care unit, to rehabilitation, public health, and long‑term outcomes. Our mission is two‑fold:
1. Breadth of coverage. We welcome work spanning every specialty and subspecialty of medicine and surgery, including—but not limited to—basic science with clear translational intent, clinical research, implementation science, quality improvement, health policy, medical education, and global health. Submissions may take the form of original investigations, systematic or scoping reviews, meta‑analyses, case reports and series, technical notes, clinical images and videos, practice guidelines, surveys, brief communications, commentaries, and editorials.
2. Depth of inclusivity. We place special emphasis on empowering voices that have historically been under‑represented in the scientific literature. Medical students, residents, fellows, attending physicians, and multidisciplinary care teams—particularly those working in low‑income, lower‑middle‑income, or otherwise resource‑constrained settings—are strongly encouraged to submit their work. Articles describing innovative solutions, frugal technologies, or context‑specific adaptations that improve patient care where resources are scarce are especially valued.
Through rapid yet rigorous peer review, continuous publication, and active promotion on digital platforms, the journal seeks to connect authors with a diverse international readership—clinicians, researchers, educators, policymakers, and patient advocates—who can apply, critique, and build upon published findings. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of scientific integrity, methodological transparency, and ethical conduct while nurturing the next generation of clinician‑scientists and surgical innovators.
In short, Academic Medicine & Surgery serves as an inclusive, accessible forum for high‑quality scholarship that advances patient care and health equity across all contexts in which medicine and surgery are practiced.
